Acanthosis Nigricans is a skin condition that is marked by dark discoloration and velvety thickening of the skin especially of body folds or creases (as of the armpit, groin, or neck) and that is often associated with obesity, insulin resistance, hormonal irregularity, or medication use but may rarely occur as a sign of cancer (as of the stomach or liver).
If you have acanthosis nigricans (ah-kan-THO-sis NY-gruh-kans), you’re probably concerned about how it looks. You’ll notice that your skin is thicker and darker, especially around joints and areas with lots of creases and folds, like your knuckles, armpits, elbows, knees, and neck.
Most patient mistake it as just dirt but no amount of scrubbing is going to remove it.
Most important cause of this disorder is obesity and Type 2 Diabetes.
